Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the government has nothing to do over the issue of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s participation in the next general election as it will be decided by the court.
“The government also has nothing to do regarding the release of Khaleda from jail. It is the matter of the court,” he told journalists after paying tribute to Sheikh Jamal by placing floral wreath at the Banani graveyard.
Obaidul Quader, who is also road transport and bridges minister, paid the homage on behalf of his party marking the 65th birthday of Sheikh Jamal, son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Speaking about BNP’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman’s stay in London under political asylum, Quader said BNP does not want Tarique to do politics in the country facing cases and troubles.
“He (Tarique) has also no such courage,” he added.
AL presidium member Abdul Matin Khasru, joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, science and technology affairs secretary Md Abdus Sobur and general secretary of AL’s Dhaka City South unit Shahe Alam Murad were present on the occasion, among others.
