Staff Reporter: Several worshipers were injured in a motorbike attack on a mosque in New York, USA. The incident took place at the Jame Mosque under the North Bronx Islamic Center during Friday prayers on Friday (August 28th), local time. Police have arrested a black youth who attacked from the spot. Tensions are running high among local Muslims over the incident.
Worshipers at the Jama Masjid, which is part of the North Bronx Islamic Center, said worshipers were preparing for the holy Friday prayers around 1 a.m. Friday. Due to the limited space inside the mosque and the coronavirus, the worshipers took to the sidewalks and streets to maintain their social distance. Before the prayers began, a young black man on a motorcycle started talking provocatively. At one point the motorbike lifts over the muslin. Several worshipers were injured. In the ensuing situation, the worshipers surrounded the attacker and informed the police. A large number of police reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area. Before the situation worsened and from the clutches of the agitated worshipers, the police took the black youth into their custody. The name of the attacker was not known. The injured were admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
