Bangla Press Desk: At least 40 people were injured after air-conditioners (AC) exploded in a mosque during Isha prayer in Narayanganj on Friday night. Around 150 people were attending the prayer at the mosque when the AC exploded, eyewitness said.
The injured were taken to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital initially. Later 37 of them were rushed to the burn unit of Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute. Doctors said one of the injured people was in critical condition.
Mosque committee president Gafur Mia told Jugantor, “Six ACs of the mosque exploded at a time. All of the windows were shattered in the explosions and huge smoke was belching out of the mosque when we reached there.” “I and other local people took 40 injured people to hospital. Later doctors sent the critical patients to Dhaka,” he added.
Nazmul Hossain, doctor of Narayanganj 100-bed hospital, said, “People who were injured in the explosion started coming at the hospital after 9pm. Most of them sustained 70-75 percent burns. We sent them to Dhaka after primary treatment.”
The doctor also added that among the 20-25 injured people, some sustained upto 99 percent burns.
