Staff Reporter : The United States has passed new laws to curb hatred against Asian-Americans. Like Africans in the country, Asians are victims of racially or religiously hate crimes. This time the US Congress has passed a law to stop that hatred.
Earlier, the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act was passed in the House of Representatives in the form of a bill with 364-62 votes. The bill became law with the signature of President Joe Biden on Thursday (May 20). The law provides for a number of measures to curb crime against Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). With this law, hate crimes can be verified quickly.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the law would help reduce hate crimes in America. Pelosi added that between March 2020 and March 2021, there were 6,600 hate crimes against the AAPI.
In March of this year, six Asian women were shot dead in a massage parlor in Georgia. Former President Trump called the corona virus a Chinese virus. According to US media reports, the number of corona infections in the United States has increased since then, and the number of attacks on Asian-Americans has increased.
