Staff Reporter : Abdul Quaiyum, a Manchester expatriate from Connecticut, USA, is no more. He died at Manchester Memorial Hospital on Saturday night (July 10) local time (Innalillahi … Rajeun). He had been suffering from terminal cancer for a long time. He was 69 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter and numerous relatives. Manchester expatriate engineer Amiruzzaman Tutul confirmed the news of his death.
Ashikur Rahman, former general secretary of Bayt ul Mamur Mosque in Manchester, said Abdul Quaiyum, a resident of Fulbaria village in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district, came to the United States on November 27, 1990 to make his fortune. After living in New York for almost 9 years, he moved to Manchester, Connecticut in 1999 for permanent residency, where he lived with his family for a long time.
Ashikur Rahman, who was very close to the late Abdul Quaiyum, also said that he had a special contribution from the beginning of the establishment of Bayt ul Mamur Mosque in Manchester, USA. He was the vice-president of the mosque from 2010 to 2016 and a member of the board of trustee from 2016 until his death.
His body was buried at the Muslim cemetery in Enfield after his Janazah prayers at the Bayt ul Mamur on Sunday afternoon. His death has cast a shadow of mourning over expatriates in Connecticut, including Manchester. Leaders of various social and regional organizations, including the Bayt ul Mamur Mosque Committee, have expressed deep grief over the death of Abdul Quaiyum and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
