Staff Reporter: The executive committee has decided to remove Zakaria Chowdhury, chairman of the executive committee of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA), an organization of Bangladeshis in the United States, for continuing unorganized activities and abusing power. Last month, the executive committee also passed a no-confidence motion against him for alleged immoral and unorganized activities. Masud Rob Chowdhury, executive secretary of the Fobana Executive Committee and chairperson of the Media and Public Awareness Committee, said in a press release.
It is learned that last Tuesday (June 29) a virtual emergency meeting was held between the Fobana Central Committee and the host organization of the Fobana Conference-2021 to find a constitutionally appropriate solution to the delicate situation. Chairperson Zakaria Chowdhury was absent from the meeting and showed extreme failure in discharging her responsibilities. The members of the executive committee are extremely angry with his actions. The majority of the members present at the meeting discussed the issue of non-cooperation with the executive committee and decided to release Fobana Chairperson Zakaria Chowdhury from his post on the grounds of irresponsibility and utter failure in conducting organizational activities.
According to the constitution, the tenure of Zakaria Chowdhury, the chairperson of the executive committee, will continue in 2020-2021, only his tenure will be suspended and the vice chairperson of the executive committee, Dr. Ahsan Chowdhury it is mentioned that will be in charge of the executive committee of Fobana till the end of his term in collaboration with the rest of the members of the committee.
The allegations against Fobana Chairperson Zakaria Chowdhury are: unconstitutional and undemocratic decision-making on Fobana’s activities bypassing the Central Committee, unconstitutionally giving the host committee a decision to change the date of Fobana Conference, discharging the powers of the Chairman Attempts to defame Fobana’s executive committee members by spreading misleading propaganda against Fobana’s executive committee members and tarnishing Fobana’s image in public, disregarding constitutional provisions in the management of Fobana Central Committee, convening emergency meetings of Fobana and non-cooperation To harm the committee financially.
At the meeting of the Central Committee held on June 16, 2021, all the decisions were taken in a democratic manner with the approval of the majority of the members in accordance with the constitution but the chairman of the Central Committee Zakaria Chowdhury ignored it and tried to rule undemocratically. The proposal is accepted. The executive secretary of the executive council mentioned that the chairman has been running this misleading campaign with his malicious attitude since the beginning of this no-confidence motion.
It may be mentioned that on June 16 last month, Fobana received a motion of no-confidence against Zakaria Chowdhury, the chairman of the executive council, alleging that he was involved in unorganized and immoral activities. The executive council has accepted a no-confidence motion against him for allegedly engaging in immoral and unorganized activities. Four days later, on June 20, 2021, a press release signed by Fobana Central Committee Chairman Zakaria Chowdhury unofficially spread baseless, untrue, misleading news in the media stating that he was the Vice Chairman Dr. Ahsan Chowdhury (Hero) and Executive Secretary He himself sent a press release to various newspapers saying that he had expelled Chowdhury. He called the editors of several newspapers in Dhaka and urged them to publish the news, but they refused to do so. Fobana has a dedicated Media and Public Awareness Committee, whose sole responsibility is to send out all kinds of press releases related to Fobana. And it is only when the chairman himself becomes interested in fulfilling that responsibility, invisible to all, that questions arise about his personality and the issue becomes a hotbed of discussion among the members of the executive council.
