US politicians assure Bangladesh of resolving corona vaccine crisis

Staff Reporter : Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, an influential leader of the Democratic Party, has promised to provide vaccine assistance from the United States to solve the corona vaccination problem for a large population of Bangladesh. The governor also agreed to explore ways to co-produce vaccines and supply vaccines commercially in Bangladesh with the help of the Central Research Division at Pfizer Global’s headquarters in Connecticut. He made the assurance during a meeting with Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M Shahidul Islam at the governor’s residence on Monday (July 12).

Earlier, Bangladeshi Americans hosted a reception in honor of the ambassador in Hartford City, Connecticut, where Congressman John B. Larson (Democrat-Connecticut), Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (Democrat-Connecticut), Lieutenant-Governor of Connecticut Susan Bysiewicz,State Senator Saud Anwar, Manchester city mayor Jay Moran, chair of Connecticut Democratic Party Nancy DiNardo, Bangladeshi-American and mainstream political activist Md. Masudur Rahman, Dr. Mehdi Anwar, and other local community leaders present at the time.

During the talks with the Ambassador, Congressmen Larson and Congresswoman Hayes, despite their busy schedules, pledged to further enhance Bangladesh-US cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade, support for Kovid-19 and Rohingya repatriation to Myanmar. The House of Representatives hopes that Bangladesh will receive its fair share of Covid-19 vaccines to cover its huge population. They all pledged to continue campaigning for the interests of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi expatriates in the United States. They also lauded the ongoing socio-economic progress of Bangladesh including the empowerment of women under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
