Staff Reporter: A new convening committee of the World Federation of Bangladeshi Buddhists has been formed. Dr. Basumitra Barua, a senior scientist, has been elected as the Chief convener and Suhas Barua as the member secretary. In a virtual meeting held last Saturday (July 17), local time in The United States, with the participation of Bangladeshi Buddhists living in different world countries.
The World Federation of Bangladeshi Buddhists (WFBB) was formed with Dr. Basumitra Barua from Arizona in the United States as the chief convener and Suhas Barua as the member secretary from Boston Massachusetts. This led to an international organization of Buddhist nationalism in nearly two and a half thousand years old Bangladesh. The initial number of members of the organization is 71. It has been informed that the Bangladeshi and Bangladesh-origin Buddhist community living in any country of the world can be a member of this organization. Boston Expatriate and WFBB Newly Elected Member Secretary Suhas Barua said the organization is an international initiative for Bangladeshi Buddhists worldwide to preserve the thousand-year-old religious culture of Bangladeshi Buddhists and strengthen social bonds and maintain continuity.
