Bangla Press Desk: Fakir Alamgir, a word soldier and legendary musician of the 1971 Liberation War, passed away at the age of 71 (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilahi Raziun). He succumbed to coronavirus at a hospital in Gulshan at 10:57 pm on Friday (July 23rd).
The news of the death of the country’s legendary mass musician has been confirmed by his son Mashuk Alamgir Rajib. He was 71 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, three sons and numerous admirers.

Earlier, on Wednesday (July 14), Fakir Alamgir was diagnosed with a corona infection. After that he was taking treatment from home on the advice of the doctor. However, his fever and shortness of breath increased from Thursday evening. He was rushed to a hospital. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital’s Covid unit at 1am on Thursday (July 15). He was later taken to life support from the ICU on Sunday (July 18). She had a heart attack on Friday (July 23).
Fakir Alamgir was born on 21 February 1950 in Kalamridha village of Bhanga police station in Faridpur. His father said. Hachen Uddin Fakir, mother Begum Habibunnesa. Fakir Alamgir passed the 1966 secondary examination from Kalamridha Govinda High School and was admitted to Jagannath College.

He graduated from Jagannath College and later passed MA in Journalism from Dhaka University. He entered student politics in 1966 as a member of the Menon Group of Students Union. Following this, Kranti entered the music industry in the sixties as a member of Shilpi Gosthi and Gana Shilpi Gosthi. He played a special role in the mass uprising of ’69. In the war of liberation of 1971, the artist joined Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as a word soldier.Of course, he had been singing mass music since the sixties. As a member of the Kranti Shilpi Gosthi and Gana Shilpi Gosthi, he played an outstanding role in the mass uprising of 1969.

After independence, Fakir Alamgir became involved in pop music. He has done many songs by combining the folk tunes of Bengal with the western music. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, the state ‘Ekushey Padak’, ‘Sher-e-Bangla Padak’, ‘Bhasani Padak’, ‘Sequence Award of Honor’, ‘Tarkabagish Gold Padak’, ‘Jasimuddin Gold Padak’, ‘Kantakabi Padak’, ‘Ganakabi’ He was honored by the government with ‘Mahasammanna’, ‘Tripura Culture Coordination Award’, ‘Dhaliwood Award United States’, ‘Jan Sanyog Samiti Special Honor’, ‘Channel I Music Award Special Honor’ and ‘Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship’.
