BAFFC’s New England T-20: VCC set record for runs in opening match

Staff Reporter: The T-20 cricket tournament is a different kind of joy, and it doesn’t matter if it’s in exile. The Vernon Cricket Club (VCC) of Connecticut set a record for runs in the opening match of the New England T-20 Gold Cup Cricket Tournament which started in the United States last Saturday (July 31). Vernon Cricket Club batted with a target of 211 runs thrown by Western Massachusetts Cricket Club. They recorded 216 runs in 12 overs in this 20 over match.

The cricket tournament has started for the first time in the history of the state of Connecticut in the United States. A large number of expatriate Bangladeshis and foreign guests also attended the new cricket ground constructed at the Robertson Elementary School ground in Town of Manchester.

Before the start of the game, Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut (Treasurer Chowdhury Haider Tareq and Ayesha Dewan Lipi’s script performance Connecticut State Dr. Senator Saud Anwar, City of Manchester Deputy Mayor Miss Sarah Jones, Milan Cultural Association Chairman Suresh Sharma, Connecticut expatriate Bangladeshi Dr.Saidur Rahman, Dr. Mojibul Gani and Dr. Gazi Golam Rasul spoke in a brief discussion on opening tournament.

Members of the Cricket Tournament Technical Committee and coordinator cricket-lover Engineer Amiruzzaman Tutul, Mollah Bahauddin Pial, Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut ( BAFFC) President Shad Chowdhury Babu, General Secretary and Member of Cricket Tournament Technical Committee Harun Ahmed, Member Shariful Ahsan Helal, Jahed Chowdhury Liton and Sarkar Mamun initiated the launch of the New England T-20 Gold Cup Cricket Tournament.The organizers said that it will continue in the future.

Meanwhile, after a long time, three Bangladeshi doctors living in Connecticut were seen on one stage. These are- Dr. Saidur Rahman, Dr. Mojibul Gani and Dr. Gazi Golam Rasul. They have not been seen on the same stage in the last one and a half decades, but local expatriates are happy to see the three of them together in the T20 Gold Cup cricket tournament of the Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut.
Gold sponsors Dr Tamim Ahmed, Ashfaqul Tarafdar and Mir Sabbir Ahmed were present in the opening match.
Wakash Newaz top-scored with 64 runs off 20 balls for Vernon Cricket Club (VCC) in Connecticut on Saturday. Adil Sardar scored 72 runs off 14 balls and Billal Ahmed scored 35 runs off 14 balls.

On the other hand, for Western Massachusetts Cricket Club, Timur scored 46 runs off 14 balls, Faisal scored 45 runs off 13 balls and Shahid scored 35 runs off 12 balls.

Note that this cricket tournament will continue till September 19. At the end of the screening, the first round, the second round and the third round will be held in three groups with 9 teams. A total of 9 teams including 1 Bangladeshi team from Massachusetts and 4 teams from different cities of Connecticut are participating in the tournament. There are many prizes in the tournament including champion runners-up, man of the series, man of the match. In the first match, Mohammad Rabbi and Anwar Hossain Himu conducted the game as umpires.

The tournament was organized by the Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut to give cricket fans and the new generation of Connecticut the joy of playing cricket, said Mollah Bahauddin Pial, a cultural secretary and coordinator of the Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut.
