Staff Reporter: Two matches have been played on the second day of the BAFFC’s New England T-20 Gold Cup cricket tournament. The Downtown Strikers (DTS) beat the Connecticut Super Kings (CSK) by 35 runs in the first game last Saturday (August 7) at 10:30 am at the Robertson Elementary School in the Town of Manchester.
The Downtown Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first in the first innings. Prasaman alone scored 65 off 60 balls and Bhawneet scored 24 off 19 balls. Jegan took 3 wickets.
In the second innings, the Connecticut Super Kings batted were all out for 130 runs. In this team Srinath scored 31 runs from 29 balls. Bhawneet got 3 wickets.
The game started at 2:30pm. Bangladeshi American Friends and Family of Connecticut (BAFFC) won the toss and elected to bat first. The team’s player Nick Blackwood scored the first century of the tournament. He recorded 108 runs with 9 sixes and 7 fours in 57 balls. Zaheer Manguru of the same team scored 24 runs off 13 balls. Wikas Khan, Danish Khan and Jawad got 2 wickets each.
West Hartford Kings (WHK) scored 206 runs for 5 wickets in the second innings. Saeed Khan scored 56 runs off 45 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours, Arsal Jeffrey scored 66 runs off 27 balls with 10 sixes and Shehroz Ahmed scored 40 runs off 15 balls. Rony Ahmed and Ifte Ahmed got 2 wickets each.
Engineer Amiruzzaman Tutul, Chowdhury Haider Tarek and Dr. Tamim Ahmed were the umpires in both the games.Also score writers were Dr.Tamim Ahmed, Shad Chowdhury Babu, Harun Ahmed, Moinul Islam, Shahedul Islam Dipu and Shariful Ahsan Helal.
