Staff Reporter: The traditional ‘Mezzan’ for Chittagong residents living in the US state of Connecticut was held on Saturday (September 4) at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. Sraboni Singh, the only Bangladeshi female Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Connecticut, suddenly appeared on the field in Mezzan. She also had a direct meeting with Nurul Alam Nuru, the chief coordinator of Mezzan and Humayun Ahmed Chowdhury, the general secretary candidate of his parishad in the election of BAAC. But no response was seen.
Sraboni posted a picture of Rehana Hanif, the mother of New York Councilwoman candidate Shahana Hanif, and Nazim Uddin, the convener of Mezzan, on her Facebook page. But Nuru and Humayun did not react or protest even after Sraboni’s presence and face-to-face meeting at Mezzan’s ground.
However, Nuru left the place as soon as he got the news of Sraboni’s arrival at the expatriate Barisal Pithamela held in Manchester on 15 February last year (2020). The next day, Nuru used Humayun to threaten Sraboni with vulgar language. Disgusted by their actions, Sraboni informed New Yorker’s CPA Sarwar Chowdhury, the head of his workplace. After hearing the incident, he sent a letter to all concerned, including Moinul Haque Chowdhury, president of the Bangladeshi American Association of Connecticut (BAAC).
Not only that, a local journalist posted a status on his Facebook about the arrival of Sraboni at the Pithamela. A few days later, Nurul Alam Nuru sent a legal notice through his lawyer threatening to sue the court, urging him to remove his status from Facebook. Many have condemned his actions. How did Sraboni Singh come to the Mezzan field with his combination this time? After meeting the two, there were many questions as to why they did not respond. There are also rumors circulating among Connecticut expatriate Bangladeshis about the Nuru-Sraboni relationship.
