At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister addressed the UN General Assembly.
At the same time, tension arose when the leaders and activists of the United States Awami League took a confrontational stand on the other side of the same field, calling for a protest rally called by the BNP. Several ministers and government officials, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were staying inside the UN with the Prime Minister at the conference center at the time. Hundreds of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates gathered in the area adjacent to the UN headquarters. They started chanting slogans against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as dictatorial, anti-people and illegitimate Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, along with the BNP’s protests, the Awami League has also held peace rallies. The slogan welcoming the Prime Minister was suppressed in the face of the BNP’s massive slogan. Awami League workers became enraged when BNP leaders started chanting obscene slogans against Sheikh Hasina, calling her the unelected and illegitimate Prime Minister of Bangladesh. At the protest rally, BNP leaders said that Sheikh Hasina, the claimant of the Prime Minister elected in an undemocratic and ridiculous election, has no right to give a speech. Because he was not elected by the people.
The BNP leaders said that the resistance movement has been successful wherever Hasina is in the United States. They said that Sheikh Hasina is lying to the world by coming to the UN and talking about peace, keeping the common people of the country in the midst of murder, disappearance and terror. The speakers said the Awami League government is an unelected and undemocratic government. They are doing politics of killing the leaders and activists of the opposition party of the country including jail-torture. BNP leader Zillur Rahman Jilu said the people of Bangladesh are not able to speak freely today. Democracy is missing in Bangladesh today. Bangladesh is now immersed in an ocean of corruption. Hundreds of crores of rupees of looting are coming out as soon as the administration raids the business establishments of the Juba League leaders.
Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been detained on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the name of development. Besides, the government is preventing Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman from entering the country with a false case.
