Staff Reporter : A Bangladeshi girl named Rifat Ara Ali has died in a fire at her home in New York, USA. A fire broke out at the home of expatriate Bangladeshi Mohammad Ali on Marshall Street in Elmont on Long Island on Saturday (October 2) morning.
Rifat Ara Ali (14) was burnt. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. She died on Sunday while undergoing treatment. Her elder brother, grandfather and grandmother were seriously injured in the accident. Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Otaro confirmed the information.
Rifat Ara Ali was a ninth grader at a local school. Rifat’s brother Raim Sadman Jim (17), grandfather Shamsul Haque (82) and grandmother Dil Afroz (75) are being treated at Nassau University Hospital.
Chief Fire Marshal Michael Utaro said firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:45 a.m. Saturday to report the blaze. The fire was brought under control after 45 minutes.
Mohammad Ali’s home is in Chandpur, Bangladesh. Samina Shams’s home is in Kushtia. The couple has been living in the house on Long Island since January 2019. Samina’s parents left Bangladesh for New York on July 25 to visit their daughter and two grandchildren. They were scheduled to return home on October 25. However, their passports were burnt in the fire. The fire service is investigating how the fire started.
