Staff Reporter: A day-long city election is being held in various cities in the US state of Connecticut on Tuesday (November 2). Mohammad Karim has become the first Bangladeshi councilman candidate with the hope of winning the New Milford City election. If elected, he would be the first Bangladeshi councilman in the history of Connecticut.
Expatriate Bangladeshi Mohammad Karim has become a councilman candidate with a plan to serve the people. He is almost certain of his own victory. He is running as the first Bangladeshi councilman in New Milford. He has already received a wide response from people of all walks of life. If elected, he will be the first Bangladeshi councilman in Connecticut. His dream is to build a mosque and a mosque for Muslims in New Milford. If elected, he hopes to be able to implement it. The representative recently spoke with Councilman candidate Mohammad Karim. Below is a brief interview:

Q: Where is your home or place of birth?

Answer: Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong district

Q: When did you come to America?

Answer: 15 November 2002.

Q: Where were you at first, what did you do and what are you doing now or what is your profession?

A: I was first in Torrington, Connecticut. Worked at LE Belcher Inc. Company, then at Atlantic Management Group, ANG Petroleum as Operations Supervisor.

Q: What are your educational qualifications?

Answer: I have completed MSS from Chattogram University.

Q: How long have you been in Connecticut?

A: I have been in Connecticut since 2002.

Q: Are you involved in any social work here?

Answer: I was a member of the Board of Finance, now I am the Vice Chairman of the Board of Assessment. Democratic member of the Refugee Resettlement and Town Committee in New Milford City.

Q: What do you want to do for the Bangladeshi community if elected as a councilor in New Milford?
Answer: There is a desire to build a tax office and a mosque for Muslims in New Milford. To provide interpreters for Bangladeshis in all areas, including the realization of the fair rights of immigrants.

Q: How many years of married life? When and where did you get married, how many children?
Answer: I got married to Jahan Chowdhury about 26 years ago. We have two daughters named Faizan and Radyah Karim.

Note that the number of Bangladeshis in New Milford is much less than other cities. But he is hopeful that he will win the American voters’ vote.
