Staff Reporter: Former New York expatriate Osman Chowdhury has again approached the court seeking a stay order on the November 14 election of Bangladesh Society in New York. No one has renewed the membership for a two-year term before announcement of current election of the committee and he has asked the court to stay election on the ground that it has caused huge financial loss to the society as a result of not updating voter list. The court fixed date on Friday, November 12 at noon for the hearing.
Osman Chowdhury said that according to the rules of the court, the defendants have to be informed with a notice before issuing a stay order. He informed them through the court as per the rules. The hearing will be held at 12:20 pm on Friday (November 12) in the Supreme Court of Queens County, Jamaica. If desired, the defendants can also appear in court in due course and give their reasonable opinion, said Osman. He had also filed a case in the court seeking restraint of his rights due to his inability to participate in the 2018 elections and a ban on the postponement of the Bangladesh Society elections, but the wise judge did not take cognizance of it. He has revived the previous case. Whose index number is 7850/2018.

It is feared that the election of the society may be postponed again as a result of the decision of Osman Chowdhury just four days before the election. Osman Chowdhury himself is hopeful that if he can explain the matter to the judge properly, Judge can order the postponement of the election on an urgent basis. If he files an order to show cause petition in the Supreme Court on Friday and his petition is heard, the court will decide on the matter after hearing on Friday. If the court rules, the election will be postponed again.
