Noman Sabit: After 34 years in New York, Bangladesh Consulate General has launched consular services via credit cards. As per the conditions given during the provision of consular services at the office of the Consulate General in New York, established 34 years ago on July 17, 1990, expatriates have so far paid only money orders and bank certified checks for fees. In this, the expatriates had to fall into many ironies. Considering the convenience of expatriates, the system of depositing all kinds of consular fees through credit card was introduced last Tuesday (November 19).
For 34 years, thousands of expatriates have been subjected to irony in providing money orders and bank certified checks while receiving services as per the terms and conditions of the Consulate General. Consul General of New York Md. Najmul Huda said that the problem of expatriates has come to an end after almost 3 centuries.
Najmul Huda said, on October 1 of this year, the new journey of Bangladesh Consulate General started at 31-10 37 Avenue (Suite 201) building in Long Island City. Within a month we started another new journey consular service through credit card. Last Tuesday was just a test. From Wednesday (November 20), consulate services are fully through credit cards. He mentioned that this service has been introduced as part of making the consulate service more transparent, accountable and people-friendly. However, 3% bank surcharge will be applicable for each transaction in case of depositing all types of government prescribed fees through credit card. Besides, the traditional system of payment of fees through money order will also continue.
Deputy Consul General of New York SM Nazmul Hasan said that the expatriate Bangladeshis will be greatly benefited by the consulate service through credit card. Earlier, as per the terms and conditions of the consulate, only money orders and bank certified checks were provided for payment of fees. From now on no one will have to fall into any irony.
