Army chief returns home after official visits to Russia, Croatia

Bangla Press Desk: Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned home on Saturday following official visits to Russia and Croatia, according to a statement on the verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Army.

During the visits, General Waker met with the Russian Army Chief, deputy defence ministers, and other high-ranking military and civilian officials. In Croatia, he held meetings with the Chief of the Armed Forces and senior military and civil officers.

On 7 April, the Army Chief paid a courtesy call on Russian Deputy Defence Minister General A Fomin. The two discussed various issues of mutual interest, including military cooperation, training assistance, bilateral relations, trust-building, manpower export, higher education, and joint training initiatives on regional security.

The following day, on 8 April, General Waker met with Russian Army Chief General Oleg Salyukov to further discuss defence cooperation, training support, and future collaboration plans.

In addition, the Bangladesh Army Chief met with the Director General of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom, to discuss the integration of power into the national grid and the timely completion of physical security measures at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

General Waker also held meetings with senior officials of Rostec and Rosoboronexport to strengthen military exchanges between the two countries.

On 10 April, during his visit to Croatia, General Waker paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, chief of the Croatian Armed Forces, to discuss defence cooperation and mutual interests. Source: DS
