Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has proposed that an individual should be given a chance to become prime minister again after a gap of serving the post for two consecutive terms.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed came up with the party’s stance on the matter while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, during the lunch break following the third day of dialogue with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Opposing the commission’s proposal that no one can serve as prime minister for more than two consecutive terms, the BNP leader said that the National Consensus Commission made a new proposal regarding the issue.

He, however, refused to disclose the proposal at the moment since the party would discuss the matter at its forum.

Salahuddin said the BNP has opined in favour of including another article in addition to Article 48(3) in the constitution, mentioning the authorities the president can exercise beyond the existing powers.

He said these things would be done through discussion in parliament at a later date.

The BNP leader added that the party has agreed with the commission’s proposal that the president be elected by the votes of members of both houses in the House. Source: DS
