Ema Alice: The Empowering Development Project, Inc. (EDP) celebrated its 10th anniversary in New York. The event took place on Friday, April 26, at a restaurant in Rego Park, New York. For many years, EDP has been working to help underprivileged women in New York achieve financial independence through skills training, access to small business loans, vocational education, and entrepreneurship support.
Ambia Begum Antora, the founder and executive director of EDP, stated, “About 10 years ago, we embarked on this journey with a far-reaching vision to empower women. We provide skills training, small business loans, vocational education, and entrepreneurship support to help women become financially independent. Today, we are overjoyed to celebrate our organization’s 10th anniversary.”
She further added that literacy programs, scholarships, and leadership training are offered to enhance women’s participation in decision-making roles within society and government. EDP also focuses on improving women’s access to healthcare services, maternal health, and nutrition programs, raising awareness about women’s rights, helping prevent gender-based violence, and advocating for policy changes in support of gender equality. Another core goal is encouraging women to play active roles in community development through cooperative societies, agricultural programs, and environmental initiatives.
The event’s chief guest was New York State Senator John Liu, who praised EDP’s success and lauded founder and executive director Ambia Begum’s outstanding contributions to community development.
