Form body to ensure fair rawhide prices, curb syndicates

Bangla Press Desk: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus ordered a high-level committee to ensure fair prices for sacrificial animal skins during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha and prevent syndicate control.

The chief adviser issued the directive during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday.

Prof Yunus said, “For years, we have seen people deprived of fair prices for sacrificial animal skins, with the poorest in society suffering the most as a result.

“We will do our utmost to ensure that people are not deprived of fair prices for sacrificial animal skins due to any syndicate,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of preventing cruelty to animals during their transportation and sale in the market ahead of the sacrifice.

He also stressed the need to ensure proper use of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in leather processing.

The chief adviser directed the formation of a high-level committee, led by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, to implement the directives.

The committee will include Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar; Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan; Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan; Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan; Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam; Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury or Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant to the Home Ministry Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, BIDA and BEZA Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun; Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam; and Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, along with representatives from religious institutions and leather traders.

The meeting, chaired by the chief adviser, was attended by Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam, and others.
