Bangla Press Desk: Vehicles of the law enforcers came under attack on Friday morning while former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy was being escorted to the office of the Detective Branch of police in the city following her arrest.
At least five people, including two police members, were injured in the incident that took place at Kalir Bazar intersection on Bibi Road around 6:30am.
Earlier, the police conducted a drive at Ivy’s residence in the Deobhogh area around 11:30pm on Thursday, while tensions erupted among her supporters.
Followers of Ivy as well as Awami League leaders and activists gathered in front of her residence to prevent the arrest. Meanwhile, additional police members were also deployed in the area.
Witnesses said a group of 30-40 people carried out attacks on vehicles of police and Rapid Action Battalion who were heading towards the DB office after taking Ivy into custody.
They also pelted brickbats while a crude bomb was blasted. As the law enforcers chased the people, they fled the scene.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Md Hasanuzzaman said though their vehicles came under attack, the former mayor was unhurt. Source: DS
