Bangla Press Desk: The interim government has come under heavy criticism after former President Md Abdul Hamid – accused in a case related to a deadly crackdown during the July 2024 uprising – quietly left the country for Thailand without any obstruction.

In the wake of public anger and political condemnation, four police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kishoreganj, Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, have been removed or suspended. The three other officers are Additional SP of the Immigration Police, Tahsina Arif; Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Special Branch, Md Solaiman; and the investigating officer in the case filed against Abdul Hamid, Sub-Inspector Md Azharul Islam, according to sources at Police Headquarters.

According to a statement from the Bangladesh Police, the officers in question failed to follow proper protocol, and their actions are now under investigation.

A three-member high-level probe committee, led by Additional Inspector General of Police (Admin) Md Matiur Rahman Sheikh, has also been formed to investigate the incident. Source: DS
