Bangla Press Desk: A metropolitan magistrate court in Chattogram on Sunday allowed the police to interrogate Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran, at the jail gate in two cases.
One of the cases was lodged against him for his alleged involvement in committing sedition and the other was filed over the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
Metropolitan magistrate SM Alauddin passed the order in the morning, responding to separate petitions filed by the investigation officers of the cases.
The court asked the police to interrogate Chinmoy at the jail gate for one day in each of the cases, said assistant public prosecutor Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury.
On May 6, the court allowed the police to show Chinmoy arrested in three cases filed by the police over the November 26 incident, as well as in the murder case filed by lawyer Saiful.
On October 25, 2024, a large gathering of the Sanatani community was held in Chattogram under the leadership of Chinmoy.
On October 31, a sedition case was filed against 19 people, including Chinmoy, on charge of belittling the national flag.
On November 22, another large rally was held in Rangpur under the leadership of Chinmoy.
He was arrested at Dhaka airport on November 25 in the sedition case.
A Chattogram court on the following day rejected Chinmoy’s bail petition and sent him to jail.
The court’s decision sparked clashes between his followers and the members of the law enforcement agencies on the court premises.
At one stage of the clash, lawyer Saiful was hacked to death outside the court premises.
Several cases were filed against Chinmoy and others following the murder of the lawyer.
On April 30, the High Court granted bail to Chinmoy in the sedition case.
Later, the Appellate Division cancelled the bail. Source: NE
