Bangla Press Desk: A five-year-old girl has died and two of her siblings have been injured after a bomb, mistaken for a toy, exploded at their home in Jashore on Monday morning.
The device was reportedly found by her seven-year-old brother while playing near their house in the Shankarpur Golapata Mosque area of the town.
The deceased has been identified as Khadijatul Kubra. Her injured siblings are Sajib Ahmed, 7, who found the device, and Ayesha Sultana, 3.
Their mother, Sumi Khatun, said Khadija succumbed to her injuries in Narail while en route to Dhaka, after doctors at Jashore General Hospital referred her and Sajib for advanced treatment.
“Khadija sustained massive internal injuries to her abdomen. Both children were in critical condition and needed to be transferred to Dhaka,” the doctor added.
Police are investigating the origin of the explosive. Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Babul Hossain of Kotwali Model Police Station said, “The family claims Sajib found the device outside, but we are verifying whether it was brought in or already present in the house.”
A neighbour who rushed to the scene after hearing a loud blast around 8:30 am said the children were found bleeding and unconscious.
Police have not yet confirmed the type of explosive involved. Source: DS
