Bangla Press Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday dubbed the individuals who speak against the party and its acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, enemies of democracy and the nation.
He made the remarks at a rally held in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka this afternoon.
Demanding that the next parliamentary election must be held in February, Fakhrul said, “Our only goal is now that the election must be held in February 2026 and there will be no exception.”
He said, “There is no compromise on the question of democracy. We want the election and want it to be held as per the decision.”
Fakhrul continued, “In the London meeting, the chief adviser assured Tarique Rahman of holding the parliamentary polls. Since then, they [certain political groups] have gone mad. Those who speak against Tarique Rahman and the BNP are enemies of both democracy and the nation.”
BNP’s Dhaka metropolitan north and south units organised a march at Naya Paltan, protesting propaganda against Tarique and demanding exemplary punishment of the perpetrators in the brutal murder of scrap metal trader Lal Chand alias Sohagh in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. Mirza Fakhrul addressed the rally held before the march.
