Bangla Press Desk: England held their nerve in another dramatic shootout to defeat Spain 3-1 on penalties and retain the Women’s European Championship on Sunday, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Chloe Kelly fired home the decisive spot kick, while goalkeeper Hannah Hampton made crucial saves from Mariona Caldentey and Aitana Bonmati. Spain’s Salma Paralluelo then missed the target, sealing England’s victory.

It was a familiar script for the Lionesses, who came from behind once more, just as they had in previous knockout wins over Italy and Sweden.

Spain took the lead in the 25th minute through Caldentey, finishing off a cross from Ona Batlle. But England hit back in the 57th when Alessia Russo headed in a cross from Kelly.

Despite trailing for just four minutes throughout the entire tournament — and not once against England — Spain were denied their first European title.

Kelly, once again England’s hero, had previously scored the extra-time winner in the Euro 2022 final against Germany at Wembley. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
