
Bangla Press Desk: At least 30 leaders and activists, including the North district unit convener Golam Akbar Khandaker, were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP at Raozan upazila in the district on Tuesday afternoon.
Some vehicles were vandalised and motorcycles were torched during the clash.
Eight other injured were identified as Raozan upazila BNP General Secretary Anwar Hossain, former General Secretary Nasim Uddin Chowdhury, Akber’s personal secretary Arjun Kumar Nath and Assistant Personal Secretary Ashiqur Rahman, Juba Dal leader Sajjad Hossain, BNP leaders Awrongojeb Samrat, North district Chhatra Dal Vice President Naim Uddin Minhaj, and Mohammad Humyun.
Sources said Akber was scheduled to offer munajat at the grave of late Raozan upazila BNP former president Mohiuddin Ahmed at Sultanpur under the upazila.
As Akber and his followers, riding in several vehicles, reached the Sattarghat area on the Rangamati-Chattogram highway under the upazila, the followers of Giasuddin attacked the motorcade, resulting in a clash.
The attackers vandalised a number of vehicles, including that of Akber, and torched some motorcycles at that time.
At least 30 leaders and activists, including Akber, were injured in the clash.
“When we reached the Sattarghat area, they, equipped with batons and firearms, attacked our leaders, activists, and vehicles,” he said.
“At one stage, one attacker pointed a gun at me and fired. The bullet grazed my throat, leaving me injured,” he said, claiming that some 15-20 of their leaders and activists were injured in the attack.
Gias Uddin’s follower Raozan upazila BNP Joint Convener Firoj Ahmed said Akber brought terrorists from Fatikchhari and opened fire on a peaceful motorcycle procession of Juba Dal.
Traffic movement through the busy road came to a halt during the clash. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said sources.
A tense situation was prevailing at the upazila over the clash.

Mentionable, the local BNP leaders and activists are divided into two factions—one supporting Akber and another Giasuddin.
