Bangla Press Desk: BNP has dissolved its Chattogram North district convening committee and expelled Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, following a violent factional clash in Raozan upazila that left at least 30 people injured.
The decisions were announced in two separate party notices issued on Tuesday night, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The first notice said the Chattogram North district convening committee had been dissolved, with a new committee to be formed soon.
The second stated that Giasuddin’s post as vice chairman had been suspended.
The expulsion came over allegations of instigating internal conflict and severely violating party discipline, the notice added.
Notably, the clash broke out on Tuesday afternoon in the Sattarhat area along the Chattogram–Rangamati road, when supporters of BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury and North district BNP Convenor Golam Akbar Khandaker confronted each other. Golam Akbar Khandaker was reportedly shot during the violence.
Eyewitnesses said Golam Akbar had gone to pay respects at the grave of the late upazila BNP president with a procession of party activists. At the same time, followers of Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury were holding a motorbike rally nearby. The two sides came face-to-face at Sattarhat, where a violent altercation ensued, leaving at least 30 injured. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
