Staff Reporter: The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations has taken initiative to celebrate the International Mother Language Day jointly organized by the United Nations Headquarters and UNESCO.
The Permanent Missions of Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Jordan, Lithuania and New Zealand to the United Nations along with the United Nations and the UNESCO are going to organize a virtual event to observe the “International Mother Language Day (IMLD)” on 22 February 2021 at 12:00pm-1:30pm.
The theme of this year’s IMLD edition is “Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society”. The relevance and significance of language and communications to build inclusive societies and tolerance have assumed renewed relevance and significance during the unprecedented crisis of Covid-19 pandemic
that the world is facing now. The importance of promotion and preservation of linguistic and cultural iversities as a means of education and communications have become more urgent now than ever.
The event will be an occasion to discuss how to uphold the inalienable right of people to their mother languages and promote multilingualism globally. It will also have a multilingual cultural component.
