Staff Reporter: The Bangladesh Consulate General in New York, USA has celebrated the 72nd birth anniversary of Captain Shahid Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Fazilatun Nesha Mujib.The event, held at the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York on Thursday (August 5th) local time, was attended by dignitaries, including consulate officials and staff.
Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa and other officials of the Consulate laid wreaths at the portrait of the heroic freedom fighter Shahid Sheikh Kamal. All the martyred heroes including the Father of the Nation and other martyred members of his family prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of the freedom fighters and special prayers and supplications were offered for the continued prosperity of the country and 1 minute silence was observed for the peace of their souls. A documentary on Shahid Sheikh Kamal was screened on the occasion.
In August Consul General Shokabah paid deep homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest father of the Bengali nation. Talking about the life of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the Consul General said that as one of the organizers of our great liberation war, he has played an important role in the war of independence by organizing the students. He has played an important role in the development of sports and culture in independent Bangladesh. In addition, he has played a significant role in guiding the youth in the right direction by encouraging them in various sports.
The Consul General further said that the hard working life and ideals of Sheikh Kamal, who has many qualities, will always be a source of inspiration for us, especially for the youth. Referring to Shahid Sheikh Kamal as a fully enlightened man, Consul General Sheikh Kamal called upon all to inform the new generation about his working life and his contribution to sports, art, culture and politics in Bangladesh.
Mrs. Khaleda Rahman, elder sister of Shahid Sultana Kamal, wife of Shahid Sheikh Kamal, who lives in Albany, USA, joined the event online and shared touching memories. He thanked Consul General Khaleda Rahman for attending the function.
The day is celebrated at the consulate in New York in accordance with the rules and regulations of the host country, in the wake of the global epidemic of corona virus.
