Staff Reporter : On the National Day of Mourning, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was remembered by the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York. On Sunday (August 15), the Bangladesh Consulate General celebrated the 46th martyrdom anniversary and ‘National Mourning Day’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great architect of independence and the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, with due dignity and solemn atmosphere.
At the beginning of the program, Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa and all the officials and employees of the Consulate participated in the performance of the national anthem with half-mast flags in honor of the Father of the Nation. Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa and other officials of the Consulate laid wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the occasion of National Mourning Day, the messages of the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for External Affairs sent from Bangladesh were read.
A minute’s silence was observed in memory of the Father of the Nation, other martyred members of his family and martyred freedom fighters. A documentary on the timeless leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the rise of Bangladesh was screened at the event.
In a meeting chaired by Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa, he described August 15 as the worst day in history.
At the beginning of his speech, the Consul General paid deep homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest father of the Bengali nation of all time. At that time, he said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu dreamed of establishing a happy, prosperous, exploitation-free and non-discriminatory ‘Golden Bengal’. He further said that even though Bangabandhu was brutally killed, his ideals and dreams were never killed by the assassins. In the realization of Bangabandhu’s dream ‘Sonar Bangla’, under the visionary leadership of his worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is moving forward to reach the pinnacle of uninterrupted development. The wheel of Bangladesh’s economy is still moving under the timely and strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the midst of the current deadly corona virus epidemic.
The Consul General called upon all to turn mourning into strength and contribute to the process of building a developed country by faithfully discharging their responsibilities from their respective positions. Consulate officials also participated in the discussion on the occasion of National Mourning Day and shed light on the struggling biography, personality and ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The event, which aired on Facebook Live, was attended by many New York-based heroic freedom fighters, children of martyred heroic freedom fighters, political figures and prominent figures in the community.
On the occasion, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, other martyred members of his family and martyred freedom fighters prayed for the souls of the freedom fighters and special prayers and supplications were offered for the continued prosperity of the country.
The day is celebrated at the consulate in New York in accordance with the rules and regulations of the host country, in the wake of the global epidemic of corona virus.
