Staff Reporter: Ummul Fateh, a veteran teacher who helped the freedom fighters during the war of independence in 1971, is no more. She died at the CKD Hospital in Dhaka’s Shyamoli at 8pm Bangladesh time (New York time 10am on Thursday) (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun). She had a stroke and was under close observation by doctors at the hospital. He was 74 years old at the time of his death. She is survived by two sons, four grandchildren and numerous relatives.
Mother of engineer Hassan Khalid Deep from South Windsor, Connecticut, USA and mother-in-law of Rawnak Afrose, former public relations secretary of the Bangladeshi American Association of Connecticut (BAAC). She is the wife of Hussain Jamal Lucky, the eldest son of renowned writer, journalist, organizer Mukul Fauj founder Mohammad Modabber (Dada Bhai). The late Lucky was a former director of Bangladesh Television.
Ummul Fateh was a teacher in her working life. During the war of independence in 1971, she provided food and other assistance to the freedom fighters behind the scenes. She is the eldest daughter of Lieutenant Commander Imam Hussein. The country home of the late Ummul Fateh is at Bikrampur in Dhaka. She lived in Mohammadpur, Dhaka till her death.
Connecticut expatriate Bangladeshis, including officials from the Bangladeshi American Association of Connecticut (BAAC), have expressed deep grief over the death of veteran teacher Ummul Fateh. Deep and Rawnak requesting pray for everyone the forgiveness of the departed soul.
