Staff Reporter: Expatriates, including those from Chattogram living in the US state of Connecticut, flocked to this year’s traditional ‘Mezzan’ in Chattogram. On Saturday (September 4) at the Seaside Park in Bridgeport, a grand mezzan was held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Apart from the people of Chattogram, hundreds of expatriates from Connecticut and other districts also gathered at this year’s Mezzan.
Convener Nazim Uddin, joint convener Mohammad Hashem and chief adviser Shafiul Alam said that the mezzan held under the slogan ‘Chalon Jai Mezzan Khai’ was successful in a beautiful and smooth manner.

Their demand was that about one and a half thousand people had gathered this time. Due to the epidemic, the number of people is expected to decrease this time as compared to the last two years. However, the organizers mentioned that Mezzan has been successful and fruitful.
Compared to other organizations, Connecticut’s ‘Amader Chattogram’ has made an exception, said the guests without hesitation. Because this time, instead of a cultural event, the organizers had arranged a milad and doa mahfil for all the people killed in the epidemic in the country and abroad, which has not been seen in any forest field in the United States at all. No subscription was taken from the guests at the picnic.

Moreover, almost all picnic had raffle draws, but not here. Not only that, this time the cultural program was also canceled.
Mezzan was not held last year (2020) as a result of the terrible outbreak of epidemic corona across the United States, including Connecticut. For this reason, the concerned people are expecting the gathering of a lot of expatriate Bangladeshis from different regions including Chattogram. But compared to the first and second time, this time the crowd has decreased a bit, the guests said. It was held on June 23, 2018 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. At first, a large number of expatriates gathered at this event.

However, the biennial election campaign of the Bangladeshi American Association of Connecticut (BAAC) is in full swing. Nuru-Humayun Parishad was the first to hang a banner at the picnic ground. They then started distributing leaflets among the guests. Seeing this, Tamim-Mamun Parishad also started distributing leaflets. When convener Nazim Uddin, joint convener Mohammad Hashem and chief adviser Shafiul Alam drew attention to the issue of hanging the election banner of Nuru-Humayun Parishad at the banquet ground, they allowed the other panel Tamim-Mamun Parishad candidates to put up their own banner.
