Staff Reporter: The Fobana Executive Committee has nothing to do with Sharafat Hossain Babu, who was beaten up during the three-day Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA) 35th Conference in Arlington, Virginia, USA. Fobana Executive Council Chairman Zakaria Chowdhury and Executive Secretary Masud Rob Chowdhury said in a press release on Tuesday (September 7).
They noted that Fobana had nothing to do with the fight, which took place last Labor Day weekend or at an event in Arlington, Washington, using Fobana’s name on September 3, 4 and 5. Sharafat Hossain Babu and his organization Swadesh were expelled from Fobana for allegedly engaging in anti-organizational activities after the 33rd Fobana Conference held at the Nassau Coliseum in New York in 2019. After being expelled from Fobana, Sharafat Hossain Babu illegally organized a fair using Fobana’s name on the last Labor Day weekend and pictures and videos of the fight that took place at that illegal event were spread on various media including social media with which Fobana has nothing to do.
The 35th Fobana Conference will be held on November 26, 27 and 28 at the Gaylord Convention Center, Maryland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, and the 2021 conference will be hosted by the American Bangladesh Friendship Society.

At one stage Sharafat Hossain Babu tried to hit him. Babu first slapped him today and then Azam slapped him in retaliation. Another executive member of the committee, Maksudul Haque Chowdhury, who was standing next to the two, was also injured. When he tried to stop the two of them, he pushed Babu hard and he fell on the floor of the house. He regained his composure and went to hit Azam again. Later the situation came under control with the intervention of some people. The two children, who had been sitting and eating in the cafeteria since the start of the fight, were terrified but no one else came forward to comfort them. When the video of the fight immediately spread through social media, there was a storm of condemnation everywhere.
