Staff Reporter: Awami League and BNP have announced reciprocal programs centering on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to New York to attend the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations. For the past one week, there has been extreme tension between the leaders and activists of the two parties.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay a visit to New York from September 21 to 28 on the occasion of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. As always, She will stay in a hotel in Manhattan.
After the heads of state and government of different countries decided to attend the 76th Hybrid General Assembly of the United Nations, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided to attend this year’s General Assembly. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s speech at the United Nations on Friday afternoon, September 24. The session will focus on six issues, including the elimination of global ‘vaccine inequality’. The general debate will continue from September 21 to September 28 in the session which started on September 14. The Prime Minister’s speech may address various contemporary issues, including the Rohingya crisis. Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to meet Presidents and Prime Ministers of several countries, including US Vice President Kamala Harris.
A source in the United States Awami League said he would not take part in any public rallies or civic receptions this time as in other years. However, Prime Minister will deliver a valuable address to the party leaders and workers on September 24 from Hotel Suite through a video conference on ‘Virtual Presence’.
The prime minister will arrive in New York on the morning of September 19, United States time. Leaders and activists of the United States Awami League and its affiliates have undertaken a massive program to give a warm welcome to Sheikh Hasina at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport that morning.
Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists will also display black flags and protest as a counter program, a BNP source said.
During Sheikh Hasina’s speech at the UN, the Awami League will hold a peace rally outside, while the BNP has announced a protest rally. The permission of the authorities has also been kept for the BNP’s program. The United States Awami League has also sought permission from the authorities to hold peaceful protests in front of the JFK airport and the United Nations, party sources said.
It is revealed that the leaders and workers of the United Awami League have been agitating for several months demanding a conference. Siddique is leading the party in a fictitious and single decision ignoring the instructions of the Prime Minister regarding the conference. The leaders and workers have become angry over this. The team is divided into two groups. As a result, more anger is being expressed day by day. Most of the leaders and activists are demanding that the committee, which expired before the Prime Minister arrives in the United States, be disbanded and a proper committee be formed through a conference. Leaders and activists demanded that the unpleasant incident that took place in front of the Prime Minister at a public reception a few years ago with the slogan ‘No more Siddique’ should not be repeated this time. Both groups are preparing to make the PM’s reception a success.
