Staff Reporter: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged Awami League leaders and activists to be vigilant about anti-national conspirators. She said the anti-independence activists are still active against the country so everyone should be careful. The Prime Minister made the call at a virtual citizens’ rally organized by the United States Awami League at Lagarde Marriott Hotel around 8 pm local time on Friday. She wants to know the source of money of BNP’s anti-national conspiracy.
The Prime Minister said they are still planning to kill Bangabandhu’s family members. Those whose rise is illegal, do not accept illegal government and democracy in their mouths.
She said the history of the BNP’s undemocratic electoral power has been forgotten by itself. If the people were on the side of BNP, the people would not remove them by their movement.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina claimed that Ziaur Rahman’s participation in the war of liberation was on behalf of West Pakistan. She said the Zia family’s job is to build a mountain of wealth by smuggling the country’s money abroad. Patriots and meritorious people have been killed during their tenure.
She said some people living abroad are busy criticizing (the government) and tarnishing the image of the country. They are doing this at a time when the Awami League government has taken the country to a dignified position.
The Prime Minister called upon all to be vigilant so that no one can play tricks on the fate of the people in the country.
Politics is not for enjoyment but for self-sacrifice. Zia, Ershad and Khaleda Zia never thought of the welfare of the people but they considered power as a means to enjoy and make quick money.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has become a role model of development in the world today due to the relentless efforts of her government.
Referring to some people calling the Awami League government illegal, she said, “My question is how do they get a chance to say these things?”She further said that they are getting an opportunity to criticize the Awami League for the opportunity of digital Bangladesh created by his government.
‘If they have an ideal, they can never do it. Those who are criticizing the government are basically slaves bought by the BNP-Jamaat clique.
In this context, Sheikh Hasina said, Ziaur Rahman and Ershad came to power in violation of the constitution of the country and the High Court has declared their government illegal.
She added that Ziaur Rahman’s wife Khaleda Zia had been convicted of embezzling orphans’ money and her son (Tareq Rahman) had been convicted in a 10-truck arms case and an August 21 grenade attack case.
She said the US FBI had released information about their involvement in corruption.
The Prime Minister said the BNP had paid for the abduction and murder of Joy (Sajib Ahmed Wazed) in the United States.
“But now they are calling the Awami League government illegal,” she said.
She added that the people had voted for the Awami League to come to power and boycotted the BNP. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina called upon the BNP to take part in the general elections if it has faith in the people.
He said that Ziaur Rahman first started rigging the electoral system by voting yes / no, when Khaleda Zia overtook him in the general election of February 15, 1996, no other political party participated in that election and people did not go to the polls.
Sheikh Hasina said information has been found about the involvement of Khaleda Zia and her two sons in corruption in Bangladesh as well as in the United States.
He added that his two sons, Tarek Zia and Koko, had been convicted of money laundering. The government has been able to recover a portion of the money they smuggled.
The Prime Minister said, “Their character is to live a luxurious life by smuggling money abroad.”
She added, “When the Awami League came to power again after a long time in 1975, the people of the country first realized that the government is a servant of the people and works for the welfare of the people.”
Sheikh Hasina said, “Whenever the Awami League is in power, Bangladesh continues to move forward on the path of prosperity.”
She added that he came to New York on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dreamliner for two reasons.
The first reason is to pay for a domestic airline instead of other airlines and thus we have such money in our own hands.
The Prime Minister said that even if a plane stays at the airport without taking off, it still costs a huge amount of money every day. International flights at the airport have been suspended due to the corona virus.
She added that his government has started a process to resume flights on the Dhaka-New York route.
Sheikh Hasina said she had also heard some people say that they had flown to New York with huge sacks and trunks full of foreign currency.
The Prime Minister wants the complainants to know where these trunks and sacks go. She wants to remind everyone that when Khaleda Zia was in power, she went to Saudi Arabia with money in 150 suitcases and rented a locker in Saudi Arabia. Her state minister for home affairs, Babar, was detained at a US airport with millions of dollars and was later released through the mediation of the Bangladeshi embassy.
Hundreds of leaders and activists of the United States Awami League and its affiliates were present at the virtual civic gathering. The audience blamed the organizers for not being able to hear the Prime Minister’s speech properly. Many expressed their displeasure as there was no seating arrangement for journalists at the event and many could not enter the meeting place. It has been alleged that many people could not enter the auditorium when the front door was closed due to premature admission.
