Staff Reporter: A five-day book fair is starting from Thursday in New York, USA. The book fair, organized by the Muktadhara Foundation, will run from October 28 to November 1, ahead of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence and the 30th anniversary of the New York Bangla Book Fair. The slogan of this year’s 30th New York Bangla Book Fair is ‘Book is my power, book is my liberation’.
Bangladeshi poet Asad Chowdhury has been invited as the inaugural speaker and State Minister for Culture KM Khalid Hossain as the chief guest. Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, Director General of Bangla Academy, Poet Minar Mansur, Director of National Library and Writer Anisul Haque have been invited as special guests.
The opening ceremony will be held on October 28 in the hall room of the Marriott Hotel at LaGuardia Airport . The inaugural program will start at 5 pm on Thursday and will continue till 11 pm with the direct participation of the audience.
There will also be two special events with invited guests. There will be music performances by invited artists. Convener of the 30th New York Bangla Book Fair, Dr. Nurun Nabi informed.
The remaining four days of the book fair will run from October 29 to November 1 at the Jewish Center at the corner of 77th Street and 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights. The book fair will be held every day from 4 pm to 10 pm. In the meantime, representatives of Ananya, Ahmed Publishing House, Kathaprakash, etc., Nalanda, Batighar and Anbay Prakash from Bangladesh to participate in the book fair.
On the occasion of the book fair, the organizers spoke at the Meet the Press event on Wednesday evening, October 27. Writer, journalist Hasan Ferdous hosted the Meet the Press event at the Queen’s Palace in the city. Nurun Nabi, Ferdous Sajedin, Monirul Haque, Harun Habib, Zafar Ahmed Rashed, Humayun Kabir Dhali, Saifur Rahman Chowdhury, Golam Faruk Bhuiyan, Biswajit Saha and others spoke about the organization and preparation of the 30th Book Fair.
Publishers from Dhaka have already arrived in New York on the occasion of the book fair. At the Meet the Press event, they said, the New York Book Fair has become unique outside the country for a variety of reasons. They mentioned that their participation in this fair is doing an important job of creating connection with the people who have nurtured Bangla language in exile.
