Boston expatriate Rokeya Khanam is no more

Staff Reporter: Rokeya Khanam, a Boston expatriate from Massachusetts, USA, is no more. She breathed her last at her son’s home in Boston around 4:30 pm local time on Thursday (November 25) (Inna Lillahi… Raziun). She is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, including four daughters and two sons.

Rokeya Khanam is mother-in-law of Osman Gani, President of New England Bangladesh Awami League. Her home is in Rajnagar police station in Moulvibazar district of greater Sylhet. Rokeya Khanam’s late husband was a war wounded freedom fighter. About 19 years ago, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts, with her son and daughter in the United States.
Last Thursday afternoon, She went to his son’s house from her daughter Jasmine Gani’s house to rest in bed and he suddenly gave up her last breath.

According to family sources, her janaza will be held in ICCM, Medford on Saturday (November 27). Her body will then be buried in a Muslim cemetery. The sudden death of Rokeya Khanam has cast a shadow of mourning among the Bangladeshis living in greater Boston. Leaders of various social and cultural organizations living in Boston, including local Awami League leaders and activists, have expressed deep grief and at the same time extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
