Staff Reporter: There has been a clash, Chase and counter-chase of the United States Awami League with BNP leaders and activists supporting the anti-discrimination student movement in New York. The incident happened on 73rd Street in Jackson Heights, New York on Sunday evening (August 4) local time. Both parties took a standoff, later the police came and calmed down the situation. However, no casualty was reported in this incident.
Witnesses said New York’s professional civil society held a pre-announced protest and rally in solidarity with the anti-discrimination student movement at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights in the afternoon. So many journalists, artists, poets, writers, teachers, businessmen, engineers, doctors and pharmacists took part. After the peaceful rally, a number of BNP activists were marching along 73rd Street towards 35th Avenue.

At the other end, an Awami League procession was heading towards the restaurant. At this time extreme tension arose in the march of both the groups. The tension increased when someone threw a bottle at the Awami League procession. Both teams chase each other. It is said that at one point BNP activists beat Awami League workers. When some people informed the police, a few platoons of police came and calmed down the situation. However, no one was arrested in this incident.
Later, in a restaurant, the leaders and activists of the United States Awami League jointly held an exchange meeting.
