Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh women’s national football team has reached its highest FIFA ranking in six years, thanks to strong performances in the recent tri-nation tournament in Jordan. In the latest FIFA update released today, Bangladesh has jumped five spots to rank 128th, gaining 7.55 rating points for a total of 1099.36.

Before heading to Jordan on 26 May, Bangladesh was ranked 133rd. But after holding Indonesia, ranked 39 places higher, to a draw on 31 May, and then drawing 2-2 with Jordan, ranked 59 spots above, on 3 June, the team showed remarkable improvement under coach Peter Buttler’s guidance.

This is Bangladesh’s best ranking since March 2019, when the team stood at 127. However, in 2022, the ranking dropped to a low of 147. The country’s all-time best ranking in women’s football is 100, which Bangladesh reached twice—in 2013 and 2017.

Meanwhile, both Indonesia and Jordan have dropped one position each after drawing with Bangladesh. Indonesia now ranks 95th, and Jordan has slipped to 75th.

There have been no changes in the top three of the women’s FIFA ranking: the United States, Spain, and Germany remain in first, second, and third places respectively. Brazil has climbed four places to reach fourth, while Argentina is currently ranked 32nd. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
