DHAKA: The students, under the banner of Bangladesh General Students’ Right Protection Council, threatened to wage another movement if the government doesn’t issue a gazette notification by Thursday (May 10) on cancelling quota system in public service jobs.

The agitating students made the announcement from a human-chain formed at Teacher Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU), as part of their countrywide demonstration Wednesday (May 9).

Hasan Al Mamun, convener of the student rights body, told the human-chain that demonstrations will be staged in all the colleges and universities across the country from Sunday (May 13) if the authorities concerned don’t publish the necessary gazette by Thursday.

On Wednesday, hundreds of students took part in the human chain and gave the government an ultimatum for the second time to publish the gazette.

They were chanting various slogans including ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’ stressing their demand.

However, the quota reformist student leaders earlier gave government an ultimatum to publish the gazette by April. But, the government didn’t make any formal move regarding this.

In wake of the students’ adamant movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on April 11 told the national parliament that the public service government jobs won’t have any types of quota.
