Staff Reporter: Three people, including two Bangladeshi brothers, were killed in a horrific road accident in the United States. One of them is Mozammel Haque Russell (28), former publicity secretary of the United States BCL and the other is his younger brother Himel Akram Joy (25). The driver of the other vehicle, an 81-year-old man, also died in the accident. Two others, including their younger brother Anisul Haque Apel (18), were injured. The crash happened around 1.30pm local time on Tuesday while returning from Buffalo to New York.
According to police sources, Mozammel and his two brothers and a friend went to see Niagara Falls in Buffalo, New York. From there, on their way back to New York, they reached the town of Rochester, where they were involved in a horrific road accident. The 81-year-old driver accidentally entered the opposite direction of the road at around 1.30 pm. Two brothers and the driver of another vehicle died on the road before being taken to hospital.
According to the police investigating the accident on the highway, the 81-year-old man was driving in the opposite direction about 6 minutes before the accident. Two others were rushed to the nearby Strong Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Mozammel Haque Russell’s country home is in Nandail in Mymensingh district.
Mozammel Haque Russell’s father Md. Sirajul Bhuiyan has reached Buffalo to collect the bodies of the slain boys. Russell has two daughters, one 6 months old and the other 6 years old. However, he also said that the situation of Apple is not so critical. They are residents of Astoria, New York.
When the news of the death of two Bangladeshi brothers in this horrific road accident spread everywhere, a shadow of mourning fell among the expatriates. Leaders and activists of the United States Awami League, Juba League, Chhatra League and Sechchasebak League expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
