Staff Reporter:The United States is about to approve the coronavirus oral tablet ‘ Molnupiravir’. Local time Monday (September 11) U.S. companies Marck and Ridgeback Bio applied for emergency drug approval in the United States. If approved, it will be the world’s first oral tablet. The company says the drug is effective in treating mild to moderate symptoms of corona.
With the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration, new opportunities for Covid-19 treatment at home will be opened. Test results for the drug, named Molnupiravir, were released earlier this month. It found that the drug was able to reduce hospitalization and mortality by 50 percent in patients with mild to moderate symptoms and at least one risk factor.
A number of countries have already shown interest in purchasing the drug, which has been developed jointly with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics.
Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore are going to make deals to get the drug.
The manufacturer has entered into an agreement with the US government to provide 1.7 million courses of the drug. The cost of each course is seven hundred US dollars. The manufacturers hope to make one crore courses of medicine by the end of 2021.
The company has also agreed to allow some Indian-based manufacturers to manufacture the drug. As a result, the drug is expected to be available in 100 low- and middle-income countries around the world.
