Staff Reporter: The building in Manhattan, New York, that houses the United Nations headquarters, was closed after the police showed up. The officers received signals that an armed man was nearby. personnel inside the headquarters had been asked to take refuge. Later, it was assured that no one was in danger, and the policemen were negotiating with the man.
The American media after 12 o’clock local time (in New York) reported that a man with a gun had appeared in front of the UN headquarters there. “We have closed the building due to police action outside the premises,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the media.
It was reported that an armed man was carrying a bag. According to the sources of the American station, a bombing squad was sent to the site as a precaution.
United Nations officials an hour later said police officers were still “negotiating with someone armed with a shotgun.” It was ensured that both staff and co-workers were not in danger.
