Staff Reporter: A college education is a right that most everyone has in the free world. However, as more and more generations seek out a college degree at the nation’s top schools, the amount of debt owed is neverending.
VP Kamala Harris recently acknowledged in an interview with a prominent radio host, that the student loan crisis was a major factor in delaying people’s abilities to start a family and reach other goals that would allow them to live out life as intended.
One student, Kassandra Jones received her Master’s Degree in Public Health from the elite university and has encountered nothing but difficulties in trying to maintain the cost of living in New York as well as balancing her student loan debts, which total more than $160,000.
Well-paying jobs in her field are limited and although she has spent years obtaining the education, the graduate has not had been able to obtain a position that compliments her efforts. So she made a complicated decision to sell her eggs, also known as egg donation, in order to afford the payments and keep her head above water.
The process requires a brutal round of fertility treatments and pays between $5,000 and $10,000 per cycle. Doing this multiple times to afford her extremely high payments, Kassandra has given up on the idea of motherhood for now until she can fully pay her six-figure debt.
As many students have received tens of thousands in relief and refund payments, millions of borrowers’ futures hang in the balance.
