Two days after his arrival in the United States, a report aired on Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television on Monday (February 1) accused top Bangladeshi officials, including Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, of widespread corruption. General Aziz Ahmed, who is visiting the United States, has not yet commented on the report, which was aired on Al Jazeera.
Meanwhile, during his visit to the United States, it was not possible to know whether he would attend any meeting at the Bangladesh Embassy, Mission and Consulate. In addition to a courtesy call on the US military chief, he has held talks in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy South and Southeast Asia on regional defense and bilateral military cooperation. He is visiting various US military installations and training centers.
During his stay in the United States, General Aziz also exchanged views with military advisers and under-secretaries-general of UN peacekeeping missions. It is hoped that the visit will play an important role in increasing the number of Bangladeshi members in peacekeeping missions, conducting various peacekeeping missions smoothly and increasing Bangladesh’s representation at the policy-making level. After the visit, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed will return to the country on February 12.
