3-year-old child dies after rescue from deep tube well in Raozan
Bangla Press Desk: A frantic four-hour rescue effort ended in tragedy as a three-year-old child died after falling into an uncovered hole of a deep tube well in Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday.
Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Jasim Uddin said the boy was rescued around 8:10pm and taken to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The child, identified as Misbah, is the son of Saiful Islam, a day labourer from village Joynagar under Ward-7 of Kadalpur union in the upazila.
This fresh tragedy comes a month and a half after another child died in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi following a fall into an abandoned shaft.Raozan police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Sajedul Islam said the boy, Misbah, accidentally fell into the hole of a deep tube well near his home around 4pm.
“Fire Service personnel were informed immediately and later started rescue operations,” the OC said.
Jasim Uddin said they initially provided oxygen in the 30-foot-deep and one-foot-wide hole to help the child survive. “Later, we widened the hole with an excavator and rescued the child.”
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media showed locals trying to rescue the child using bamboo sticks.
In December, a two-year-old boy named Sajid also fell into an abandoned shaft in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi. A frantic 32-hour rescue operation ended in despair as the child did not survive.
