33 Robberies, 248 muggings, 121 murders reported in Dhaka in six months: DMP
  Bangla Press Desk: A total of 33 robberies, 248 muggings, 121 murders, and 1,068 thefts were reported in 50 police stations across the capital from January to June this year, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) statistics. DMP"s DC (Media) Mohammad Talebur Rahman revealed the figures at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday. He said the DMP believes that the overall law and order situation in the capital remains stable. Urging city residents to abide by the law, the police official said, “Do not take the law into your own hands. Please assist the police by providing information about criminals. The DMP is sincerely working round the clock for your safety and secure movement.”
When asked about instructions regarding special security measures to maintain law and order have already been issued by the Special Branch (SB) and Police Headquarters over the past 11 days, he said “We are on alert to face any situation. If anyone tries to disrupt law and order, they will be dealt with according to the law. We are also using intelligence information to keep the situation stable,” he said. When asked about alleged nighttime gatherings or arbitration meetings involving NCP and Jamaat leaders at police stations, he said, “There is no scope for such arbitration at police stations. Complainants and accused can discuss settlement matters if they wish, but there is no opportunity for bargaining inside the station. Action will be taken if any such complaints are received.” Regarding mugging incidents in Mohammadpur, Talebur said police remain active. “The law and order situation in the capital is stable.
