34% Voter Turnout Recorded in Dhaka Bar Elections
Bangla Press Desk: Voting in the election for the 2026–2027 executive committee of the Dhaka Bar Association concluded on Thursday with a voter turnout of 34%.
The voting was held on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the Election Commission, 2,759 voters cast their ballots on the first day, while 4,310 lawyers voted on the second day. Out of a total of 20,785 registered voters, the overall turnout stood at 34.01%.
Chief Election Commissioner Senior Advocate Alhaj Md Borhan Uddin said lawyers were able to vote in a comfortable and peaceful environment.
“We have managed to conduct a very fair and peaceful election. All candidates have expressed satisfaction with the voting process,” he said.
He further said, “Vote counting will begin after Friday prayers, with ballots to be counted in sequence. The final results are expected either late on Friday night or on Saturday morning.”
According to the Election Commission, a total of 55 candidates contested for 23 posts in the election. Lawyers backed by the BNP and Gono Odhikar Parishad participated under the “Blue Panel”, while those backed by Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) contested under the “Green Panel”.
The Awami League-backed “White Panel” did not participate in the election, citing an unfavourable environment. Earlier, the panel alleged that many of its members were unable to contest even as independent candidates due to not receiving nomination forms.
However, the Election Commission dismissed the allegation as baseless. Source: daily Sun
